Presentation Day

The presentation day is tailored to each individual school and the project’s success is in large part due to close collaborations with schools so we have an understanding of the biggest issues their students face.

We cover the criminal justice system, gang & drug issues, knife crime, peer pressure, joint enterprise, online safety including grooming & radicalisation and county lines.

The YLYC programme addresses the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QC) Programme of Study – Key Stage 3 Citizenship Curriculum 1a,f; 2a,b,c; 3a,b,c.

The day starts with a powerful short film demonstrating, through the story of a young boy the consequences of getting involved in a gang. The themes aired in the film are raised in and complimented by the various workshops throughout the day.

The film is followed by a rotation of professional workshops run by some of our partner agencies. The number of agencies is related to the size of the school.

YLYC Brent & Barnet brings together a pool of professional agencies:
• Magistrates
• HMP Wormwood Scrubs - Prison Officers
• Police - Safer Schools Officers & Firearms Command
• London Ambulance Service - Paramedics
• Brent Youth Offending Service
• Brent Council - Inclusion Support Team
• Directions Project - Ex-Offenders
• The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation
• Fearless
• Prevent

Amanda Cassidy is one of the paramedics who works with YLYC Brent & Barnet. She lost her son to knife crime 17 years ago. A year after his death she joined the london ambulance service with the sole aim of preventing families going through what she did.
